In August 2018, the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIF) launched the "World Refrigeration Day" to the world, and officially launched on June 26, 2019, aiming to improve the daily life of the public In the understanding of refrigeration.

Refrigeration is essentially a problem of temperature. Lord Kelvin (Sir William Thomson) (Kirvin, Sir William Thomson) founded the International Unit of Temperature Kelvin (K) in 1848, proposed the second law of thermodynamics in 1851, and discovered Joule in 1852- Thomson effect. Therefore, to commemorate Lord Kelvin, the International Refrigeration Society designated his birthday (June 26, 1824) as World Refrigeration Day.

To celebrate the world's first refrigeration day, the International Refrigeration Society released the report "The Role of Refrigeration in the Global Economy". The report pointed out: More than 15 million people worldwide are employed in the refrigeration industry, which consumes about 20% of the world's total electricity consumption. The total number of refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump systems operating globally is approximately US $ 5 billion, and the annual sales of such equipment worldwide are approximately US $ 500 billion. The data shows that with the increasing demand for refrigeration in many areas and global warming, the refrigeration industry is expected to grow further in the coming years.
